WELLNESS // back to school blessings

As many of our kiddos head back to school, we can’t help but begin to dust of the armor of the school year and mentally prepare our hearts …prepare our hearts to send off those little ones (and big ones) a little taller than last year, a little stronger, a little braver. In a world inundated with so much virtual connection, so much comparison, so much media, we can only hope they remember the foundational tools it takes to simply connect to others, to feel courage, to display kindness, to reach out, and to stand up for what’s right and wrong. We only hope they see others the way God sees us. We hope that they chose others before themselves. We hope that they chose what’s good and what’s right over what’s easy and what’s quick. We hope and we pray …and we trust that we, as parents, have displayed examples of this behavior as we ourselves go through so much of what our kiddos go through with the changing world.

With the coming school year upon us, we set a list of affirmations and intentions for the school year and read them to our children …and in turn, they truthfully helped up too. We picked a few favorites to save as screensaver backgrounds on our phones and encourage you to do the same. Send them to a student, friend, or family member that might need to hear words of wisdom throughout the coming school year.

A NOTE TO OUR CHILDREN (and to yours):

This year, we hope you see others and the world with a different set of eyes. I hope you realize that what you see on the surface is not always what is underneath. I hope you realize that someone might be dealing or fighting with feelings and emotions that are going on behind closed doors or deep in their hearts that they don’t speak about. I hope you choose to stand up for others. I hope you understand how important it is to talk to your grown-ups about all of your own feelings and emotions. I hope you realize it’s okay to feel anything you’re feeling.

We will be here to help you with your math. We will read you all the stories. We will pack all the lunch boxes and glue all the stars on all the projects. …but we are here for you so far past all the things your wonderful teachers will be teaching you this year. We are here for you.
